David "Jose" Rubio, ,was an English maker of stringed musical instruments. His creations included guitars, lutes, harpsichords, theorbos, vihuelas, citterns, panduras, and finally also violins, violas and cellos. His instruments were prized during his lifetime by many fine musicians including the English lutenist and guitarist Julian Bream. The Rubio Quartet named themselves in his honour.
Julian Bream began purchasing instruments from Rubio and used them on a number of his most influential recordings for RCA notably, the Bach Lute Suites and 20th Century Guitar. As a result, Rubio guitars from this period are very much sought after and are considered highly collectible.
